Riding and extreme weather
I went out and rode my bike a bit yesterday. It was pretty hot and I actually got a lot of comments from people who thought I was insane for being outdoors or at least riding a bike.
I was able to get out of the shop without a word from anyone. Those people ride bikes so I didn’t have to take any crap there.
The first guy (a landscaper friend) works all year doing things like climbing trees with a running chainsaw and plowing snow for 20 hours straight during storms. I would not attempt most of what he does on a routing basis.
The next guy was a farmer, he was pulling my leg. Those people are tough as nails. Having a farmer mention “it’s hot today” to you while out on a ride can mean two things. The first is it’s actually hot and he may stop working after 16 hours or here is a guy wasting a perfectly good day on a strip of black-top.
Ya, it may have been hot but my evap system works fine. Rolling a long at 15 mph with a coating of sweat feels pretty good compared to the damp still air in my shop. I can’t really blast fans while TIG welding.
The third guy, passed me on a narrow section of road in a big trash truck. He was way too close. I always get that guys message.
It’s the same company that had a driver whip his trailer at me last year while passing me through the village. The guy was doing 40 in a 30, passing on a blind curve yesterday with less than 18″ to spare and my knuckles on the guide rail. Fuck that little-dick motherfucker. Ruggiero trucking is the outfit.
At least I know the guy isn’t trying to kill me. If I would have stuck my arm out he would have broken it.
Anyway, it’s almost 6 and I need to get to work. Here are some more pics.
