interesting… secret passage/hidden safe?
Some of you have been to the shop. It’s a very old building, some parts pre-date manufactured bricks. I have heard people say mid 1700’s for the “potato barn” (restroom)part of the building. The total floor space is around 46,000 sq/ft. Pretty darn big.
It doesn’t look that way though, the way rooms and building had been added on over the years. It’s on Granger street, which used to be the main road.
During the pioneer days the locals were buried along the sides on the road. Later, during the civil war era, tunnels dug down to the river were made large to aid in moving escaped black workers away to safety . Later, who knows? a bowling alley, a shoe store and a ford tractor dealer
Today I was moving stuff around and found a door I hadn’t seen before. I opened it. This is what I saw (yes, I was scared)
As you can tell, no-one had been down here for quite a while. I knew I would find myself in another part of the building, ‘just not sure where so I turned a few lights on.
I spoke to the guy who services the massive “dry” fire suppression system we have in the building. He mentioned the tunnels. I was pretty sure this was not one of the hidden tunnels. This one was just forgotten.
I worked my way down the stairs. They made a couple of turns and I found myself in the back of the lowest floor of the building (basement) I could see the lights coming from another part of the room. (I had turned on the basement lights earlier) but found myself in a part of the room behind a small office. I came upon a large steel box blocking my path about 4’ square. I tried to move it. No luck. I climbed over and noticed it was a safe. It looks as though someone tried to open it but failed. What should I do? Open it?
