So I went to see Al, my landlord and told him what I had found. He hadn’t seen it before. It looked like someone had worked on it trying to pry it open but didn’t get too far.
I grabbed a pallet jack and gave it a few cranks. I could hear the wheels cracking the wooden floor underneath. The floor is 2″ thick wood that you can drive a fork lift on. I thought that was a bit odd.
I gave it a good tub and wheeled it out of it’s corner. It took a few back-and-forth’s to get it moving. We were actually cracking Giraldo jokes the whole way. Al mentioned we would split any profits from the venture. I thought that was very kind considering I am always asking him for favors (he has five forklifts)
We got it out in an area I could work in the back of the building. I can’t do much on a wooden floor.
I got a good look at it and realized most of it’s weight was in the bottom and the wall weren’t too thick. I figured the back would be as easy as anything so I chose that as the point of entry. Here is a view of the hinge parts that had been removed some time in the past. Al wasn’t too stoked to see that someone had been working on the safe while in hiding.
I chose my http://www.metabo.us/ 9″ grinder for the task. The bad boy will rip your arms off, if you aren’t ready when you pin it.
I am not sure what is going on with the dots on the image. Perhaps the lens is fogging up. It’s 40 in the building.
I hit asbestos right-off and added a particle mast to my wardrobe. I peeled the back open and took a look.
I peeled away the insulation and hit another wall of steel. I broke out my vintage ingersol air chisel. I purchased this tool to dismantle a 280 zx that I shipped to south america in 55 gallon drums several years ago. That white twin turbo 300 is shittin’ bricks right now. LOL.
I then peeled it open and took a look inside
Just a bunch of old ledgers from the 1950’s
I don’t play lotto so I guess this was my chance to imagine great fortune! Thankfully, I didn’t quit my day job.
