Tool making
I love making tools and machines but I try to avoid it as much as I can. Making tools is expensive and one must consider carefully when making expenditures.
The impetus for this particular gem of technology is the need to miter thinner tubes. I have some nice fine-tooth holes saws that have been modified but exact cut diameters are often a challenge. The biggest reason is many of the frames I do have some pretty severe tube shapes and nailing a perfect miter is difficult. I like to “sneak up” on a dimension. Taking repetitive cuts on a thin tube is not awesome.
I have seen these before but didn’t take a close enough look at them to see what they had done so I came up with something that used the standard belts from a hand-held carpenters belt sander. Ya, It will wear quickly because the belt is so short but I wanted to get it going and I had enough stuff to make this small version.
I just realized my photos are bad so we will have a sneak preview only. I really just don’t want to go outside today so I am wasting a bit of time and stalling.
