Sorry, my nose is a bit cold. It is snowing here finally. Thanks for the replies regarding quality work pants.
I tried to find the Wild-Ass logger pants and didn’t find anything near to my size, I have another lead.
I found a shop in Texas that made pants but they only make dress jeans. They said it’s difficult to get fabric here in the states. I don’t find that a real big surprise. It’s getting difficult to source aluminum tubing. They used to make it in Van Nuys CA. in the early 90’s and later Cannondale bought tubing made in CT.
It’s not hard to see things changing but it’s hard to see where they are going. We are gradually displaced either as individuals or in small groups but the movements are small. It’s like musical chairs with millions of people and millions of chairs. I really thought that somewhere it was promised that with increased production we would get superior durability. That was my mistake. What we got was increased performance and “We” is the key word.
Compared to the jeans of 100 years ago, todays jeans are pretty easy. There are a lot of people and machines making items these days. Each person carries less of a load, each volt of electricity makes more thread that is wrapped tighter with greater tensile strength requiring far less. Considering there are way more people on the planet who need jeans, this is a good thing.
One of the things that makes all this happen is the community and our ability to form a group to complete complicated tasks. We incorporate, integrate, mitigate and somehow completely screw things up.
We build a community with everyone building infrastructure and creating a functional network then things go bad. When thing are tight we notice people not pulling their load or taking too much booty, today who can tell?
Eventually, we have a situation like today where it’s become out of balance. Perhaps it’s always like that but in different ways and in different places.
Perhaps there really is no “then”, no single event like as it seems to us in our own lives?
If that is the case is there ever really balance? Are we doomed to perpetually trade 24 hour, multi-language, instant shipping of ball bearings that offer 40% less life than last years part?
My phone does cool things but goes dead quickly.
Now I sit here with my breakfast getting cold and three pairs of jeans in front of me while I spew hate. I guess what I need to do is just get in there and tow the line myself and STFU. I need to spend some time helping others (pay taxes), support my home (work hard and stay focused) and provide the type of work my customers expect.
I need to do better by Wade who is trying make aluminum bike tubing in CT again.
Here are some pics I took since last time we spoke.
